Good Morning Waco! This is The Waco Buzz, the newsletter that feels like finding the one covered parking spot right by the door in the middle of a storm.
Well, the rain finally showed up. A flash flood warning is in effect through this morning, with showers sticking around through Saturday. Check your plans before you head out, especially if you're headed somewhere outdoors. Sunday dries out a little, and Monday looks sunny.

BUZZWORTHY NEWS
🗓️ Your October Waco Cheat Sheet
October is when Waco's calendar gets a little ridiculous. Cooler weather means everyone wants to get outside, and suddenly every weekend has three things you want to do at the same time. Here's what's on my calendar so you can claim your weekends before they fill up:
🏊 Oct. 4: IRONMAN 70.3 Waco. This Sunday, athletes swim 1.2 miles down the Brazos, bike 56 miles, run 13.1 miles, and finish on the Suspension Bridge. Volunteering comes with some great swag. If you’ve never watched the finish line, it’s inspiring.
🎡 Oct. 8-18: Heart O' Texas Fair & Rodeo. Eleven days of rodeo, carnival rides, livestock shows, and fair food at the Extraco Events Center. hotfair.com →
🍽️ Oct. 15: The Waco Buzz Dinner Club turns 1. More than 750 seats have been filled since we started last year, meaning a lot of people have sat down to dinner with someone they didn't know. Apparently, making new friends as an adult is worth giving a shot. Come celebrate year one with us. Save your seat →
🏈 Oct. 17: Baylor vs. TCU. The Revivalry is Baylor's only home game in October.
Tickets →
🦆 Oct. 18: The Great Waco Duck Race. About 20,000 rubber ducks race down the Brazos at around 2 PM at Indian Spring Park. Every adopted duck helps Imagination Library mail free books to Waco kids. Adopt a duck →
✈️ Oct. 18: The Waco Buzz Paper Airplane Championship. After the ducks, head to McLane from 4-6 PM and see how far your paper airplane can fly toward a target in the end zone. Dinner from The Baylor Club is included, tickets start at $12, and L3Harris is presenting it. Grab a ticket →
🎖️ Oct. 21: Social Studies: Heroes in Our Midst. Since the 1990s, Vanguard history teacher Brad Livingstone has brought hundreds of World War II veterans into his classroom to share their stories with students. Now, he’s bringing those stories to the community with Heroes in Our Midst: Waco WW2 Veterans Who Helped Save the World.
It’s the sixth Social Studies event, a series of live lectures in unexpected places around Waco. Doors open at 6:15 PM at Southern Roots Brewing, and the lecture starts at 7. Grab a ticket →
🌾 Oct. 22-25: Silobration.Magnolia's birthday party is four days long for the first time, with 90+ vendors and a concert lineup that includes Mt. Joy, The Fray, and Dylan Gossett. Cory Asbury closes things out with a Sunday gathering. Details →
⛳ Oct. 29-Nov. 1: Topgolf Live at McLane. Details just below.
💀 Oct. 31: Día de los Muertos Parade & Festival. Creative Waco's parade winds along the river, then the party moves to Indian Spring Park from 4-10 PM. Map and details →

⛳ Topgolf Is Taking Over McLane Stadium
Topgolf is putting up to 22 hitting bays inside McLane Stadium from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, Baylor announced Thursday. You'll hit golf balls from the field toward interactive targets and compete for prizes, on the same field the Bears play on.
My family did this at Coors Field last summer and had a blast. I'm mostly curious to see whether my slice makes it anywhere near the target or ends up hitting the jumbotron. We shall see.
This is the first Topgolf stadium event at a college in Texas.
