Good morning, Waco. This is The Waco Buzz, the local newsletter already thinking about Halloween costumes.

Halloween is less than two weeks away, and if you're anything like me, you'll wait until the last minute. Here are three costumes that require only a white T-shirt and a Sharpie.

Write “Go ceilings!” on it. You're a ceiling fan.
Draw spots on it. You're a cow or a dalmatian.
Write numbers on it. You're someone people can count on.

TOGETHER WITH CHEVY OF WEST

🛻 Two ways to save on a Silverado
Cooler mornings are a good time for an honest look at the truck in your driveway. Does it start every time? Does it still fit everything you haul home from Lowe's on Saturday?

If the answer is “mostly,” Chevy of West owner Leo Pacheco and General Sales Manager Mark Varia have two ways to make the conversation easier on a 2026 Silverado 1500. Well-qualified buyers can get 0% APR for 5 years. Or, on select models, take a $6,000 cash allowance plus another $2,000 in bonus cash. Which one wins depends on your math, so it's worth sitting down with the team to run both.

🍌 Waco Lands Banana Ball

Photo: Baylor University

On Friday I told you Banana Ball was coming to McLane. Here's the full story.

What it is: Banana Ball is the fast, loud, fans-first style of baseball created by the Savannah Bananas. There are no walks, points are awarded by the inning, and if a fan catches a foul ball, it's an out. Add the dancing and trick plays, and it feels more like a party than a baseball game.

The Waco stop on the 2027 world tour features the Tailgaters taking on the Party Animals (no Savannah Bananas this time) on Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8, 2027.

Why it matters: Banana Ball has sold out every game since 2016. Now, the global phenomenon is coming to Waco for two games. Circle the weekend. This could be one of Waco's biggest weekends in recent memory.

There's a fun Waco connection: Two Banana Ball broadcasters, Drake Toll of the Party Animals and Cam Stuart of the Indianapolis Clowns, are Baylor alumni. Toll's Party Animals will take the field in Waco.

How to sign up: The only way to enter for a chance to buy tickets is through Banana Ball's official lottery. It's open now and closes Oct. 31 at 10:59 PM CT. A random drawing decides who gets a chance to buy. Standard tickets start at $35, and Meet and Greet tickets start at $125. Banana Ball says tickets sold anywhere else are likely fraudulent, so skip the resale sites.

Can't wait until May? Tickets are on sale now to hit golf balls on the field at McLane. Topgolf Live Stadium Series runs Thursday, Oct. 29 through Sunday, Nov. 1, with hitting bays at one end of the stadium and targets down the field.

TOGETHER WITH CEDAR HOLLOW

🌳 Waco, Meet Cedar Hollow
What would it look like to have more space, more quiet and still be close enough to town for a quick trip to H-E-B? That's Cedar Hollow, a new neighborhood just across Lake Waco, near Helberg Barbecue. It has 33 lots ranging from 1 to 3 acres, just outside city limits, so owners won't pay city property taxes. Only 6 of the first 12 preferred-pricing spots are left, so see the lots still available or call/text Colton Nixon at 254-230-6061.*

💛 Waco Gem: Waco Adapt

Waco Adapt, at 2015 Franklin Ave., is a new gym for veterans and civilians with disabilities. It fills the gap between rehab and regular exercise, helping people who might otherwise be left on their own once therapy ends.

The idea started when physical therapist Antonia Silva kept hearing patients ask where they were supposed to work out next. She teamed up with Edwin Munoz, who started the nonprofit behind the gym, Fearless Ventures Foundation. The doors opened in April.

Next up is the Waco Legends Gala on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 6 PM, with dinner, drinks, testimonials, an auction and dancing to raise money for the gym's continued growth. Local businesses can sponsor the event or a table.

☕ Origin Story
The stories behind Waco's coffee shops

Origin Story is a recurring series where you learn a little more about Waco's coffee shops, because a new one seems to open every month. Find the one you like best, become a regular, learn the baristas' names, and maybe they'll learn yours (and your drink order).

Photo: Novum Coffee

Novum Coffee | 📍 Outside Riverfront Lofts, University Parks Dr.

Novum Coffee opened in September as a cart outside Riverfront Lofts. Owner Thomas Woolley spent time living between Portland and Seattle, and after years working as a barista and cook, he wanted to bring a farm-to-table approach to coffee: quality ingredients from start to finish. The ice and water come from Waco's Blue Jug, the milk from Mill-King, and the syrups and chai are made in-house. The Terra, with sea salt, caramel and boricha syrup, is a top seller.

He worried about being “just another coffee shop” in Waco. Then he heard the local refrain: “the more the merrier.”
