🌱 Spring Is Here: Where to Get Your Yard Ready
Last week we had a freeze warning. This week we're setting record highs. Welcome to spring in Waco — where your cedar fever kicks in, the weeds show up before the flowers do, and every tree on your street suddenly remembers it has leaves. The yard is calling and there's a narrow window before it's too hot to be outside doing anything about it.
Greenlife Nursery on North New Road is the local mecca — family owned for 40 years with one of the largest organic plant food selections in town. Whether you need annuals, perennials, shrubs, or trees, their staff knows what actually survives a Central Texas summer. Free cold bottled water while you shop, which honestly seals the deal.
Over in Hewitt, Barrera's Nursery & Landscape on Sun Valley Blvd is your stop if you're thinking bigger. Their tree and perennial inventory is massive, and they'll consult on your space and handle bulk and special orders. Bonnie's Greenhouse has been a quiet Waco favorite since 1981 — go here for herbs, vegetables, and plants that are proven to handle whatever our weather decides to do next.
And if you need mulch, compost, or just some inspiration for the patio, Westview Nursery & Landscaping has you covered with locations on Valley Mills and in Woodway.

🏟️ Baylor Club Reimagined
Most people think McLane Stadium is used six Saturdays a year for football. The Baylor Club inside it is actually one of the most active venues in Waco. After a full renovation, they're opening it up this Thursday, March 26 from 4:30–6:30 PM so you can see what they've built. Each floor has its own theme — think seafood on one level, tacos on another — with specialty drinks to match. Add in live music, vendor tastings, guided tours, something fun for kids, and a stamp passport for a chance to win a year of honorary membership. It's completely free to attend.

🗑️ Your Green Bin Situation May Be Changing
Here's something that might actually affect your Thursday morning routine. City staff told Council that Waco's green cart yard waste program isn't working the way it was designed as 89% of locals don't use their green carts regularly, and contamination means most of the material still ends up in the landfill anyway.
The proposal: toss grass clippings in your regular trash cart, and use an on-demand pickup service for brush and larger yard waste instead. The city estimates the change could save about $680,000 a year. Read more

Waco ISD trustees have approved a full-time virtual education option, open to students anywhere in Texas. A third-party provider will handle day-to-day operations while WISD keeps graduation authority and accountability ratings and earns an ongoing sponsorship fee in the process.
Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer called it "a powerful extension of our current programs." For families who need flexibility, this is a real option with hopes to launch this coming Fall. Read more
