🌆 Waco Is Asking: How Should We Grow?

The city is rewriting its playbook for tourism, and they want you in the room.

Destination Waco just launched Waco Forward, a five-year plan to guide the next chapter of Waco as a destination. Travel already generates $832 million in direct spending and about 6,500 jobs across the Waco metro area (Travel Texas data), and the city brought in a large firm that has run this kind of process in over 200 places worldwide, specifically so everyone gets a seat at the table on where this goes next.

That firm has already talked to more than 100 people here: hotels, restaurants, attractions, arts groups, all three chambers, Baylor, and the county. Now they want to hear from regular Wacoans too.

🥡 The Takeaway: The survey takes about 10 minutes and your answers are confidential. If you have opinions about how Waco grows (and let's be honest, you do), this is an opportunity to say so. 👉 Take the survey here →

🎓 Baylor Is Taking Over Waco This Weekend

I didn't go to Baylor, but let's be honest: they're the closest thing Waco has to a professional sports team (still holding out hope for a Savannah Bananas franchise in the new ballpark). Family Weekend kicks off Friday, bringing Baylor students and their families into town, but locals have a few reasons to pay attention, too. A new coffee crawl will send people through downtown cafés Friday morning, along with a walking tour and Spirit Shop discounts. It’s free, though Baylor says space is limited and a confirmation email is required, so check the details before heading downtown. Friday brings Old Dominion to Foster Pavilion, while Baylor football takes over Saturday afternoon when the Bears host Louisiana Tech at McLane Stadium with tickets starting at $17.

Translation: Baylor has a full weekend planned, and a lot of it gives people a reason to get out and see more of Waco.
