BUZZWORTHY NEWS
Weekend Preview ⛅
Thanksgiving is less than a week away, which means Waco is entering the annual dance of planning, prepping, and pretending we didn’t forget the rolls last year. Before the holiday rush begins, here’s what to expect around town. Sunshine carries us through Friday and Saturday with highs in the seventies, followed by a chance of rain on Sunday. A true Texas November sampler.
If you are stocking up for the big meal, the Waco Downtown Farmers Market celebrates its 14th anniversary on Saturday morning. Vendors will have produce, breads, baked goods, and all the extras that make Thanksgiving plates a little better and HEB lines a little shorter. Downtown shifts from food to art with the Austin Avenue Art Fair running all weekend. Expect artist booths, live music on two stages, the Art Walk, and Saturday’s Art Duel, with Suede closing out the night.
At The Backyard, the longtime owners host one of their final big weekends before handing things off to new owners. Mexican OT performs Friday and Pat Green returns Saturday for the 10th anniversary celebration.
A lot of great things are happening around Waco this weekend. Now we just hope the weather plays along.

Round two of the Waco Buzz Dinner Club took place on Wednesday night, and it delivered another full evening of conversations, connections, and unexpected pairings. Twelve tables across seven restaurants welcomed people who walked in without knowing a single person they’d be seated with. Around thirty five people made their way to One Day afterward and stayed well into the night. Nights like this keep proving that Waco feels a little smaller and a lot friendlier when people sit down for a meal together.
As these nights continue to grow, I am securing sponsors this week so we can make the December Dinner Club our best one yet. If your company wants to be part of the night and get visibility across the event, social, and The Waco Buzz newsletter, reply to this email and I will send the details.
The final Dinner Club of the year is Thursday, December 11. Seats will go quickly. Grab yours here.

Ranch House Pet-Med offers your pets comprehensive wellness care, advanced diagnostics, dental treatment, and surgery ranging from routine procedures to specialized orthopedic treatments. You can find them online, by phone at 254-544-1458, or at 149 Dosher Lane, Waco, 76712.
Dog of the Week: Meet Freckles!

Freckles can be adopted at Fuzzy Friends Rescue
Freckles is a 1 year, 11 month old Anatolian Shepherd mix with a gentle personality and a face you’ll fall for fast. She’s 44 pounds of loyal, steady companionship, the kind of dog who sticks close, watches over her people, and is always ready for a walk, a cuddle, or a quiet night on the couch. If you’re looking for a sweet, dependable companion, Freckles might be the match you’ve been waiting for.
👉 Meet Freckles here.
💬Community Corner
Thanksgiving is almost here, and I’m only sending one newsletter next week, so I want to hear from you. Every family has their own holiday traditions, recipes, and the occasional “well… that didn’t go as planned” moment. One year our turkey took an unexpected turn and we ended up at Ranchito #5 eating street tacos in our dress clothes. Honestly, no regrets.
But instead of the usual “What are you thankful for,” I want to collect the best Thanksgiving table questions you’ve ever heard. The kind that actually gets people talking.
Here’s the one I used at Dinner Club this week:
“What’s something exciting in your life right now?”
OPEN HOUSE
🏡 64 Pinehurst Dr
Today’s Open House takes us to 64 Pinehurst Drive in Woodway, where Westlake Estates is getting a brand new Mediterranean stunner. If you’ve ever driven past the neighborhood and thought “I wonder what they’re building back there,” this is one of those homes.
Inside you’ll find:
• 4 beds, 4 baths, 3,695 sq ft
• High ceilings and huge windows that make the whole place feel wide open
• A show stopping spiral glass staircase right in the middle of the home
• A 3 car garage with more than 1,200 sq ft of space
Plus, you’re tucked inside a community with walking paths, green space, and even a putting green. Lake Waco, Woodway Park, and the Arboretum are all right down the road.
👉 Take your best guess at the list price, then peek at the photos and answer here.
How much is this house in Westlake Estates listed for?
WACO HISTORY
My fridge water dispenser broke this week, so I Googled a repair guy, landed on “Hammond Appliance Repair,” and thought nothing of it.
Hammond Laundry got its start in East Waco in 1911 when William Hammond set up shop on Elm Street. What began as a tailoring business quickly turned into an innovation engine. Hammond teamed up with an engineer named Fred Winslow, and together they created one of Waco’s most successful homegrown inventions: “The Hammond” laundry machine. It became the standard for dry-cleaning equipment across Central Texas.
From there, the company kept leveling up. During World War II, Hammond produced every clothes dryer the US Navy purchased.
After the war, the company went global. Hammond machines showed up in Western Europe, Indonesia, Turkey, and even Moscow housing projects during the Cold War.
By the time Hammond passed in 1977, his Waco company had grown from five employees to more than two hundred. Over 100 years of innovation rooted right here at home and still serving our community today.
