Good morning, Waco. The Waco Buzz’s Sunday Sip…your excuse to slow down before the week speeds back up. It's the first Sunday in May, and somehow the to-do list can wait until tomorrow.
See you out there!

TOGETHER WITH CHEVY OF WEST
May is Military Appreciation Month, and Chevrolet of West wants to make sure the veterans and active duty folks in our area know about this: eligible military personnel can get $1,000 Bonus Cash on most Chevy models right now.
That includes Active Duty, Reservists, National Guard, Veterans, and Retirees across all branches. Spouses are eligible too.
If you've been sitting on a truck upgrade, this is a real reason to go do it.

🎤 About That Concert

The Post Malone and Jelly Roll show at McLane Stadium on May 19 is canceled.
Live Nation pulled the plug on the first month of their Big Stadium Tour Part 2. Low ticket sales were a factor across the tour, and Waco's date went with it. Post Malone posted a statement saying he needed more time to finish recording music he'd promised fans: "I promised y'all beautiful people new music, and I don't have the time to finish it before tour starts."
Carter Faith was also on the bill.
Baylor confirmed the news Friday and said they're already working on future shows for McLane. The silver lining: Willie Nelson plays Baylor Ballpark on May 14, Old Dominion is on sale for a Family Weekend show September 18, and more announcements are coming.
Disappointing. But May still has plenty going on.

📜 Waco History
Look up the next time you're on anywhere close to downtown. That 22-story building with the ALICO letters glowing at the top has been part of Waco's skyline for more than 110 years.
The Amicable Life Insurance Company built it in 1911. The architects designed it to be the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. It came with its own power plant, its own artesian well, its own water and drainage systems. Completely self-sufficient.
In the 1930s, Waco Radio broadcast from a studio inside the building. By the 1960s, the ALICO was playing Christmas music from speakers mounted on the roof. The whole downtown could hear it.
Then came May 11, 1953. An F5 tornado tore through the heart of Waco in the late afternoon, killing 114 people and destroying or damaging nearly 600 downtown buildings. The ALICO survived. It became a command post and one of the few structures left standing in the worst of the destruction.
That tornado anniversary falls on Monday, May 11. This coming Saturday morning, you can walk the actual path it cut through with Eric Ames from Baylor leading the way. Details are in the events section above.
