Good morning, Waco. This is The Waco Buzz's Sunday Sip, a slower read to go with your second cup of coffee. Here's what's worth looking forward to this week.

Let’s get to it!

TOGETHER WITH CHEVY OF WEST

Most people think of Chevy of West when they're ready to buy a truck. Fewer people know that their service department is one of the best-kept secrets in Central Texas.

Right now they're running Buy 3, Get 1 for $1 on select tires with installation. There are also active offers on brake pads and rotors, shocks and struts, and tire pressure monitoring system sensors. Certified Chevrolet service, honest pricing, and a team that treats your vehicle like it's theirs.

Whether your truck is due for its 5,000-mile check or it's been making a sound you've been pretending not to hear, this is the crew to call.

👉 Schedule service or stop by the shop in West chevyofwest.com.

Red Herring — Hotel Herringbone, 319 S 4th St

My wife and I sat down at Red Herring last week for a date night. We ordered a handful of tapas-style plates that all played off each other well. The one I keep thinking about is the Lumache alla Vodka.

  • Coastal Mediterranean fine dining inside Hotel Herringbone. Tapas-style menu, so plan on sharing a few plates.

  • The lumache (shell-shaped pasta) comes with 'nduja (spreadable salami…had to look it up) and stracciatella. It tasted like a recipe someone's grandma passed down and a trained chef polished up.

☕ My Take: I couldn't get enough. Go with someone you like, order three or four plates, and let the kitchen do the rest. Right now Red Herring is offering $25 off your next $75+ visit for new users of inKind. Grab it on their site.

Social Studies is a Waco Buzz event series where professors and experts give live lectures in unexpected places like a bar. Think TED Talk meets happy hour. Get tickets

🏠 Austin Ave. Parade of Historic Homes — May 9
Historic Waco is opening the doors to privately owned homes along Austin Avenue, many of them for the first time. 🎨 Arts Spotlight

Interactive Murals at the Bledsoe-Miller STEAM Center

Artists Michelle Wilson, Allie Walker, Tneyah Thomas, and Vincent Thomas created a series of murals at the STEAM Center that are worth a visit. Three exterior walls and eight interior panels tell Waco's story through science and local history, honoring figures like Jules Bledsoe, chemist James Andrew Harris, and Dr. Vivienne Malone-Mayes, Baylor's first Black professor.

Pull out your phone, scan the QR codes, and the murals will come alive with augmented reality. Free, walkable, and one of the best public art projects in the city. I had never seen anything like it.

💬 Community Board — Help Me Build It

Several of you have asked for a community board in the Sunday Sip: a place for garage sales, engagement announcements, obituaries, and possibly even a marketplace. I love the idea, but I want to get it right before launching. What would you want to see here? Reply to this email with your thoughts.

THANKS!

Thanks for reading The Waco Buzz today. If you found something worth sharing, send it to your friend who still thinks Waco only has chain restaurants.

Whenever you’re ready, here are three ways to get more involved:

1. Want to reach Waco? This newsletter lands in 13,000+ local inboxes every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. If you're a business owner looking to get in front of people who actually live here, let’s talk.

2. Dinner Club: Meet five other locals (recent movers and lifelong Wacoans) over dinner on April 29. You’ll make new friends regardless of stage of life and help make Waco a smaller town.

3. Job Board: The best place to find open roles at growing companies in Waco with opportunities in media, marketing, sales, communication, tech, and engineering.
