Good morning, Waco. This is the Sunday Sip with The Waco Buzz, the second best way to start your day…right behind Folger's a local coffee shop.

This past Thursday night, 65 of you showed up to Social Studies with Dr. Leslie Hahner. Love seeing this community keep growing. The next one will be announced soon!

Let’s get to it!

TOGETHER WITH CHEVY OF WEST

L to R: Mark Varia, Ty Korenek, Adrian Aleman, Leo Pacheco

Most people know Chevy of West for the trucks and SUVs on the lot. But the reason people keep coming back is the team inside.

Owner Leo Pacheco and his team, including Sales Manager Mark Varia and sales pros Ty Korenek and Adrian Aleman, have built a dealership that runs on relationships. They've earned the Chevrolet Mark of Excellence award, which says a lot about the way they treat their customers and run their operation. Whether you're buying your first truck or trading in your third, this is a team that remembers your name and answers the phone when you call.

Stop by the showroom in West or browse inventory at chevyofwest.com.

🍽️ Restaurant Spotlight

The Trompo King Taqueria

The Alvarado family started with a single food truck back in 2018. Eight years and two trucks later, they opened a full taqueria at 1700 S 5th St, and it's become one of the best taco spots in town.

Jorge runs the front of the house. The menu is straightforward: tacos, quesadillas, burritos, tortas, and a wide variety of 44-ounce aguas frescas. Everything is made fresh. Every order comes with complimentary chips, salsa, and guacamole before your food even hits the table.

Trending: What to order

  • $12 Five Taco Plate. That's $2.40 a taco.

  • The al pastor is their signature, cooked on a traditional trompo (the rotating spit the restaurant is named after).

  • The carne asada comes topped with fresh guac, and it's the move.

☕ My Take: Family-run, no-frills Mexican food at a price that won't make you flinch. The fresh guac on the carne asada alone is worth the trip. I'll be going back.

📜 Waco History

With Brazos Nights kicking off at Indian Spring Park this Friday, here's something worth knowing about the bridge you'll be standing next to.

In 1866, a group of Waco businessmen hired a New York engineer and commissioned cables from the same firm that would later build the Brooklyn Bridge. They hauled supplies by steamship and ox cart from Galveston. The result: a 475-foot suspension bridge made from nearly 3 million locally produced bricks.

When it opened in 1870, it was the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi. Discover the full story at wacohistory.org.

📌 One more thing

I'm thinking about bringing back the community board to The Sunday Sip. A place where you can share engagements, milestone birthdays, business launches, obituaries, or just shout out a neighbor doing something good. Would you use it? Reply and let me know.

THANKS!

Thanks for reading The Sunday Sip. If you enjoyed it, share it with the friend who always orders the same thing at every restaurant and needs to branch out.

Whenever you’re ready, here are three ways to get more involved:

1. Want to reach Waco? This newsletter lands in 13,000+ local inboxes every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. If you're a business owner looking to get in front of people who actually live here, let’s talk.

2. Dinner Club: Meet five other locals (recent movers and lifelong Wacoans) over dinner on April 29. You’ll make new friends regardless of stage of life and help make Waco a smaller town.

3. Job Board: The best place to find open roles at growing companies in Waco with opportunities in media, marketing, sales, communication, tech, and engineering.
