BUZZWORTHY NEWS

Post Malone and Jelly Roll are coming to Waco 🎶
Waco will host a major stadium concert this spring. Post Malone and Jelly Roll, fresh off his recent Grammy win on Sunday, announced they’re bringing The BIG Stadium Tour Part 2 to McLane Stadium on Tuesday, May 19. Waco is one of only two Texas stops on the tour, with the other in El Paso. It’s another step in a steady trend. McLane Stadium and Foster Pavilion are seeing more large scale live events, and this show adds to that momentum.

Presale signups are open now, with general tickets going on sale Tuesday, February 10 at 10 AM through Baylor’s website.

Community Corner 💬
The Waco Buzz pop-up store is open. It features brand new shirts, a sweatshirt, and a hoodie, all built around a simple idea: there’s a lot of good stuff going on in Waco, and we’re thankful to call this place home.

If the Waco Buzz has become part of your week, this is an easy way to support it. Grab one for yourself and one for a friend. The pop up will be open for the next two weeks.

Business News

AutoZone is moving into Summer Palace
Permits have been filed to fully renovate the former Summer Palace Chinese restaurant near Hobby Lobby into a large AutoZone. Construction is scheduled to start April 22 and wrap up by late July.

Texas State Technical College opens its Construction Technology Center.
Yesterday marked the first day students moved into TSTC’s new Construction Technology Center, focused on hands-on training for building construction, electrical, HVAC, solar, and plumbing. A ribbon cutting is set for March 26, but the bigger story is what this means long term. With more data centers coming to Central Texas, skilled trades like electricians are becoming some of the best-paying, most stable jobs around. This new center is a direct pipeline of local talent into those roles, which is a win for Waco workers.

Shane’s Chimney Care expands into Waco.
Announced over the weekend, Shane’s Chimney Care is officially opening service in Waco, marking their furthest east expansion after building a strong presence across West Texas. The Waco location is being led by longtime Wacoan Donny Martin and will offer chimney inspections, repairs, and fireplace services. If you spent the winter storm of 2026 staring at your fireplace wishing it had been prepped, this is probably your sign to get it checked before next time.

Seeds 13 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu opens on Woodway Drive.
Another Texas-grown business has landed in Waco. Seeds 13 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is now open at 6908 Woodway Dr and is offering a free one-week trial. Founded in 2017, the academy focuses on high-level instruction, strong community, and a family-friendly environment for kids and adults. If you watched UFC recently and thought, “How hard can it be?”, this might be your low-risk way to find out.

Small Business Spotlight: Zuke’s Tea Bar

Stacy Zukerman and some of the Zuke’s Tea Bar Team at their recent ribbon cutting ceremony

Zuke’s Tea Bar is a locally owned specialty tea bar in the heart of downtown Waco, focused on one simple idea: brewing really good tea, one glass at a time. They specialize in premium loose-leaf teas, along with matcha, milk teas, and thoughtfully crafted hot and iced blends designed for both longtime tea lovers and anyone just chasing great flavor.

Waco wasn’t a strategic choice for the team behind Zuke’s. It was home. They wanted to introduce tea in a way that felt approachable and a little different, while still obsessing over quality in every cup. They’ve also found real value in the local small business community, having other owners to lean on, swap ideas with, and call when things get tough.

You can find Zuke’s Tea Bar at the Shops at Hotel Herringbone, 319 S. 4th Street, or online at zukesteabar.com. If you haven’t stopped by yet, this is your nudge.
Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.

📖 A Waco legend tells his story

If you’ve lived in Waco for any length of time, there’s a good chance Carey Hobbs has shaped this city in ways you’ve felt, even if you didn’t know his name.

Carey Hobbs, former United States Marine fighter pilot and founder of Hobbs Bonded Fibers, just released his new memoir, PILOTING LIFE: One Man’s Reflections on Life and the Lessons He Learned, on February 1, with the foreword by U.S. Senator Phil Gramm.

The book, written by Carey Hobbs with Melinda Seibert, reads like a front-row seat to nearly a century of local and national history. From flying as a Marine pilot between the Korean and Vietnam Wars, to building a global manufacturing company right here in Waco, to quietly shaping civic life for decades, this is a story rooted in leadership, service, family, and faith.

One more reason it matters: a portion of every book sold supports the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, so picking up a copy also gives back.

If you enjoy stories about the people who helped build modern Waco and the remarkable journeys behind them, this one belongs on your shelf. Order your copy of PILOTING LIFE on Amazon.

SPORTS
Baylor Sports This Week

🏀Women’s Basketball (19–4, Ranked No. 14)
The Bears finally saw a hot streak cool off on February 1, falling 70–60 on the road to No. 22 West Virginia. That snapped a strong run that included an 82–66 win over Houston earlier in the week, but nothing about the loss suggested a slide. This group has been steady all season.

They’re back on the road Wednesday at Cincinnati for a 5:30 PM tip, then return home Saturday to Foster Pavilion to host Arizona State at 5:00 PM.

🏀 Men’s Basketball (12–9)
Relief. Baylor picked up a much-needed road win on January 31, beating West Virginia 63–53 in Morgantown. That came after a tough loss at Cincinnati earlier in the trip, but the response mattered, especially defensively.

This week brings a mix of opportunity and reality. The Bears host Colorado Wednesday night at Foster Pavilion at 7:00 PM, then head to Ames on Saturday for a 1:00 PM matchup against Iowa State, one of the best teams in the country. If Saturday looks more competitive than the first meeting, that’s real progress.

🎾 Baylor Tennis (No. 20 nationally)
Something easy to overlook: Baylor Tennis is ranked No. 20 in the country and is actively trying to build more community support. They’ve been leaning into it too, offering food, shirts, and giveaways at home matches. Last Friday night it was Kings Wings, fries, and T-shirts, and they tend to do something similar every time.

The next home match is Monday, February 9 at 6:00 PM at the Hurd Tennis Center. If you want a low-effort way to support a nationally ranked Baylor team and enjoy some concessions, this is it.
