📜 La Fiesta: 60 Years of Feeding Waco
Before the frozen margaritas, before the hot sauce shipped to front doors across the country, Antonio P. Castillo Sr. arrived in Waco and bought a small downtown cafe. That was 1920. What followed is one of the longest-running restaurant stories this city has ever seen.
The Aztec Cafe came next, then El Patio, then The Italian Village, where a chance encounter with an airman from James Connally Air Force Base introduced pizza to the Castillo menu and, essentially, to Waco. The family has always been willing to adapt. The recipes never changed.
Sam Castillo Sr. opened La Fiesta in 1963 on 18th and Washington, moving it to Franklin and Valley Mills in 1972, where it still stands today. His brother Antonio Jr. later took the family name to Sanger Avenue with Casa de Castillo. Four generations. Multiple restaurants. One family that's been feeding Waco longer than most of us have been alive.
Most people eating chips and queso at La Fiesta have never heard this story. This Thursday night, Historic Waco Foundation is giving you the chance to eat your way through it. $30 a ticket. Two seatings at 6 and 7:30 PM. Get Tickets Here and use code BUZZ to save $5.
