Coolest Summer Since 2007 β˜€οΈ

Remember last year when we all thought we’d melt into the pavement? This summer’s been the opposite. Waco has only logged five 100-degree days so farβ€”the fewest since 2007.

Experts say we can thank a rainier spring and a lucky break from the dreaded β€œheat dome.” Translation: our yards stayed greener, our ACs ran a little lighter, and for once, Labor Day felt (almost) tolerable.

Kangaroos, YouTube, and Waco Wildlife 🦘

Here’s a sentence you don’t hear every day: two kangaroos were hopping down a Waco street this week. They’d escaped from Waco Wildlife Rescue, where local YouTuber Ben (yep, the one with 3.25M subscribers) runs a certified wildlife rehab and farm sanctuary.

Waco PD eventually β€œgot a jump on the situation” (their words) and brought the kangaroos home safely. The rescue says the animals are fine and they’re tightening up those gates before the next video goes viral.

Dog of the Week: Sperry 🐢

Sperry is a 5-year-old, 18-pound Cardigan Welsh Corgi mix with short legs, big ears, and an even bigger heart. He’s available for adoption now through Fuzzy Friends Rescue.

If you’ve been looking for a sidekick with a permanent smile, Sperry might be your guy. Meet him here.

What would you do with $1.7 billion in Waco? πŸ’°

Saturday’s Powerball drawing could crown a new billionaireβ€”$1.7 billion with a B is on the line. And it got me thinking…

If you hit the jackpot and suddenly got to shape Waco’s future, what would you put the money toward? A Brazos Riverfront that rivals San Antonio, Cowboys Stadium 2.0, a Waco subway system, or just handing Trader Joe’s and Costco a blank check to finally show up?

What would you do if you had $1.7B and the keys to the city of Waco?

Will feature the best and boldest ideas in next week's edition.
