BUZZWORTHY NEWS

A Week to Remember in Waco
This is one of those perfect fall weeks in Waco—the kind that begs you to get outside and be part of something.

📸📸@marlybmassey

Prosper Waco kicked things off Sunday night with two massive dinner tables stretching across multiple blocks of Austin Ave.
750 people. One meal. One mission: celebrating 10 years of investing in education, public health, and economic mobility—and proving that in Waco, everyone deserves a seat at the table.
Growing community one meal at a time.

THIS Wednesday: Waco Buzz Dinner Club Debut
Space sold out with all 80 spots claimed, and the number of people who said “I wanted to come but this date didn’t work” was eye opening—so I already have Round 2 penciled in for November. Details coming soon, but the goal is simple: help Waco get smaller in the best possible way by making it easier to meet new people, make friends, and build real community.

And then Thursday–Saturday, Silobration takes over downtown.
Local tip: go on Thursday—that’s the day you’ll actually see Waco locals before the tourists roll in for the weekend. This year’s Silobration is the biggest yet, featuring the largest vendor fair they’ve ever hosted (80+ vendors including local favorites like Ramble & Co, Central Goods, and Fabled), Jo’s new Barbie launch with Barbie-themed treats all over Magnolia (yes, even pink pancakes at Magnolia Table), kid friendly activities all over the grounds, and massive photo ops—including a life-size Fixer Upper set built on the Press patio and a full-size Barbie box from Mattel. Oh, and Forest Frank performs Friday night.

Need a break after all that action? Here’s a steal.

✈️ Flight Deal of the Week

Just got back from a week in Nashville—paid for parking through the Waco airport app and it was seamless. 10/10 would do it again.

This week’s deal: Roundtrip flights from Waco to Miami for $257 on American. Sun, beaches, Art Deco, Cuban coffee…Might be the cheapest warm-weather escape you’ll see all year.

BUSINESS NEWS
New Openings & Moves

🏓 Indoor Pickleball Shake-Up
Dinkden Pickleball (📍 700 Schroeder Dr.) just announced they’re closing for good this Thursday—only months after opening.
But in the same week, the former Conn’s building on New Rd was confirmed to become The Picklr, a national indoor pickleball chain with 50+ locations.
No opening date yet, but indoor pickleball isn’t leaving Waco—it’s just leveling up.

🌲 The Forest Store Is Coming to Washington Ave
The Historic Phillips Forest Products—Texas’ oldest family-owned sawmill—is opening The Forest Store on Washington Ave, right next to Tecovas in downtown Waco.
Think live edge wood slabs, handmade mantels, custom furniture, gorgeous home goods, and high-end woodworking supplies. Half lumberyard, half designer showroom—this could be one of downtown’s most unique new shops.

🌮 Sison Tacos Opens on Franklin Ave
📍 601 Franklin Ave
A longtime Waco Farmers Market favorite just launched its first brick-and-mortar.
Handmade tortillas, bold flavors, and a loyal fanbase already lining up.
Early word: this might be downtown’s new taco heavyweight.

🧋HTeaO located at 4800 Bosque has their Grand Opening this Saturday. To celebrate they are giving away FREE tea from 10 - 12 PM. First 250 people will receive a T Shirt as well.

💦 Waco Pool Route Business For Sale
A long-running local pool service business is up for grabs with steady recurring revenue and over 20 years of established clients. Asking price is $220K with $110K in annual cash flow—a rare turnkey owner-operator opportunity in Waco. If you’ve ever thought about owning a low-overhead service business, this one is worth a look.

💡 Growth like this is exactly what our partners at Cromwell Commercial Group help businesses navigate—whether you’re opening your first shop or expanding across town.

What City Council is working on this week—and why it matters

This week’s meeting will shape how Waco looks, grows, and even how much you pay on your utility bill.

On the agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting:

Downtown development code update – Sets the rules for how new buildings look, how tall they can be, parking, walkability, and overall vibe. This shapes what Downtown Waco will feel like for decades.

Riverwalk expansion + bridge light repairs – Extending the Brazos Riverwalk and fixing the I-35 bridge lights. More access for locals, better experience for visitors.

$220M Electrolit beverage plant deal – 149 full-time jobs with benefits in southwest Waco. One of the largest private investments in years.

SpaceX donating an authentic spacecraft capsule – To be displayed at the new STEAM Center, inspiring local students and boosting tourism. A huge “only in Waco” moment.

Stormwater fee DECREASE – Proposal to drop the monthly drainage fee from $6.55 → $5.55 in 2026. Yes—an actual utility fee going down.

🕕 The meeting is at 6:00 PM at the Waco Convention Center – Bosque Theatre.
The public is welcome to attend.

QB Sawyer Robertson leads the nation in passing yards and TDs

🏈 Football — Tough one in Fort Worth over the weekend. Baylor fell to TCU 42–36, and with three losses on the season, it’s time to start looking for upside… like Sawyer Robertson still posting some of the best QB stats in the nation. They head to No. 24 Cincinnati this Saturday at 3 PM.

🏐 Volleyball — After taking down Cincinnati 3–1, Baylor Volleyball is knocking on the door of the top 18 nationally. Next up: a huge home match vs. BYU on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 PM at the Ferrell Center.
Tickets from $11: baylorbears.evenue.net/event/V25/V09

Soccer — Baylor Soccer just beat Utah 2–0 and is now officially a Top 10 team in the nation. They travel to Florida to face UCF on Thursday, Oct. 23. Keep watching—this squad has its eyes on national championship hardware.
